1968-1992 Exchanges

The Student Exchanges during this period were for High School and College age students during the summer when students were not in school. The exchanges alternated between the two host cities with students from Berkeley going to Sakai in odd numbered years and Sakai students visiting Berkeley in even-numbered years. The exchanges generally lasted about 4 weeks with a week+ of travel before arriving in the host city, and 10 days of host stays with each of two families. There was generally an overnight trip during (or between) the home stays to a park or camp. The time in the host city was generally fully planned by the host city with a meeting with the mayor and city council, tours of local businesses, meetings with local organizations, celebratory dinners with the respective Sister City Organizations, cultural visits, visits to local tourist sites, and 2-3 days of unstructured "host family days".
